It’s been two long years, but Queens Distance is set to return to Forest Park! Join us for this 10 Miler (4 Loops) or 5 Miler (2 Loops) set for March 11th, the day we Spring Forward and practically welcome the arrival of Spring!
Certainly not a pancake flat course, but not incredibly hilly, this course will offer a balanced race on your Spring Calendar. Whether you are using this as an opportunity to train towards a Spring Marathon, or hone in on your speed, this race will have a little bit of everything for you.
Bathrooms can be located by the start of the race, near the Woodhaven Blvd end of the route.
Transportation- Take the R or M train to Woodhaven Blvd, then take the Southbound Q53, Q52, Q11 or Q21 to Myrtle Avenue and Woodhaven Blvd. You can also take J Train to Woodhaven Blvd, then walk up Woodhaven Blvd to the entrance of the park. Another alternative is to take the E or F Train to Union Turnpike: Kew Gardens and make your way through Forest Park drive (this is about a 2 mile jog). The Q55 also leaves you a block from the Race Setup Area.
Parking- If you are driving, you can set your GPS for the Forest Park Carousel where there is a Fee-Free Parking Lot. You’ll have to walk out and cross Woodhaven Blvd to access the Race. You may also have a shot at parking directly on Woodhaven Blvd.
Course- The Course features a 2.5 Mile Out-And Back of Forest Park Drive. Starting from the Woodhaven Blvd side, you’ll pass by Victory Field Track, heading above Myrtle Avenue, heading through the rolling hills of Forest Park Drive, staying to the right lane of the road. You’ll finally reach the Metropolitan Avenue side of Forest Park Drive, and make the turnaround to head back to the Woodhaven Blvd side, remaining on the right side of the road. Once you pass the timing mat, you will have completed the first loop of 2.5 Miles, and continue on with your race. (3 More loops for 10 Miles, 1 Final Loop for 5 Miles)

Let’s build up for Spring Marathons! This is our battle cry going into 2018. In response to the feedback of developing a Race Schedule geared for Spring Marathoners, we invite you to come to the first of two Timed, Non-Scored, No Frills- Long Training Run at Flushing Meadows Park.
Course- The route is a two mile loop of the Unisphere side of Flushing Meadows Park. This road, specifically, have some of the best-taken care of roads for Flushing Meadows Park- in case of snow. The route starts between the Unisphere and the USTA Entrance, you’ll run towards the Unisphere, make a left turn, head towards the Fountain of the Planets. After rounding the Fountain completely, you’ll reach the start of the 2nd Mile of the Route, heading straight towards the Unisphere once again. Once you reach the Unisphere, you’ll make a left turn and then a right turn, passing the NY State Pavilion and heading on the overpass. You’ll then reach the Queens Zoo as you veer to the right off the overpass, then make another merge to the 2nd overpass, completing the loop.

The 2nd of three Training Runs for your Spring Marathon takes us to a park we have long awaited to mark our debut in, Alley Pond Park!
As you know, our primary goals are to present runners with new opportunities to train for Spring Season Marathons, and have them spread across our beloved Borough. Alley Pond Park has a ridge of hills, famously known for strengthening even the most seasoned runner.
You decide if you would like to run one, two or three loops! Our staff and volunteer team will be stationed and lively along the route for the duration of your run.
Course- You will start out facing the Elementary School and Basketball Courts, then following the main road towards the Long Island Motortrail- almost immediately you’ll climb the first hill, then head behind the baseball field and under the Clearview Expressway. You’ll then make a right turn, re-entering the Motortrail Park Lane and make a left turn. Following the left turn, you’ll gradually climb- then descend for approximately 2 miles. You’ll then run underneath the Grand Central Parkway, then make a small series of turns by the Alley Pond Sports Center, leading you back to the Motortrail where you will retrace your steps and return to the Start/Finish for the completion of the loop.
Transportation- Please take extra time to arrive before 8AM. Given that this event is in Eastern Queens and about 2.5 Miles from the F Train- 179th Street Station, and over 3 Miles from the Main Street Flushing 7 Line, it is recommended that you drive setting your GPS to 193-20 Horace Harding Expy. This will leave you 1 block from the Start/Finish Line. You can also transfer to the Q30 from Jamaica and get off by Horace Harding Expressway and Peck Avenue, or the Q17 from Flushing Main Street.

The Spring Marathon Tune-Up is back, and so is the Community 5K! Our Tune-Up events have gained traction, particularly in the Spring. It’s understood that it’s not the best time of the year to put events together, but runners never stop! With a good amount of Spring Marathon Races in April and May, we invite you to “Tune-Up” your Marathon Pace at Flushing Meadows Park with us.
Spring Marathon Tune-Up- We will be following the same course that was intended for the Fall Marathon Tune-Up of 2017. The course is a 5K Looped route, and registered runners are expected to complete the 6 loops. If you are anticipating to complete less than 6 loops, please inform the race timers by the Start/Finish area.
Queens Community 5K- The Queens Community 5K has also returned! We were very pleased to see the positive feedback from Tune-Up runners that invited their friends and loved ones to take part in this 5K.
